iOS 27 Uses AI to Fix Weak Passwords for You — What We Know

Apple is adding a new feature to its Passwords app that can automatically replace weak or leaked passwords for users. Here’s what is changing and why it could help you keep your online accounts safer.

What Happened?

According to TechRadar, Apple announced a major upgrade to its Passwords app during its WWDC 2026 event. The new feature, coming with iOS 27, can automatically change passwords that have appeared in data breaches or are considered weak.

Until now, the Passwords app could warn users when a password was reused, weak, or found in a data breach. With the new update, Apple Intelligence (Apple’s AI system) will also be able to create a new password, navigate the password-change process, and save the updated credentials automatically on supported websites.

Apple says the feature uses Apple Intelligence, which can process requests directly on your device or through Private Cloud Compute (Apple’s secure cloud processing system). Future versions of Apple Intelligence will also use new AI models that rely on Google’s Gemini technology.

Who Could Benefit From This Update?

The feature is designed for people who use Apple’s Passwords app to store and manage login credentials.

Apple has not shared how many websites will support automatic password changes at launch. The feature will only work on supported platforms that allow password changes to be completed automatically.

Why Leaked Passwords Matter

Passwords that appear in data breaches can remain valuable to criminals for years.

Many people reuse the same password across multiple accounts. If a password is leaked from one website, criminals may try it on email, shopping, banking, or social media accounts.

Weak passwords can also be easier to guess using automated tools. That is why security experts often recommend creating a unique password for every account.

Many people do not realize their login details may have appeared in older data breaches. Some breaches receive little public attention, and affected users may never notice until suspicious activity appears later.

If you are not sure whether your information was leaked somewhere online, automatic monitoring can help you spot problems earlier.

How Apple’s New Password Tool Works

Apple says the new system can handle several steps automatically.

When the Passwords app finds a weak or leaked password, Apple Intelligence can:

  • Generate a new strong password
  • Open the password change page
  • Complete the password update process
  • Save the new password securely

The goal is to remove the extra work that often prevents people from updating passwords after receiving a security warning.
